How Painful Can Hair Loss Transplants Be?

by Hazel Hughes

There are many people who like to have hair loss transplants but have been turned off by the thought of the pain associated with it. Also many of them have scalps that are sensitive may be scared of having their scalps being cut. Of course, the degree of hair transplant pain is different for different people.

A few of those who have gone through hair loss transplants claim that it is just like visiting your dentist. This does not come out as if it is pain-free, and it is no way going to be an enjoyable experience. Nevertheless a few don’t deny that there will be some degree of hair transplant pain.

The injections of the local anesthetic into the scalp prior to the operations are unquestionably painful to some degree. Anyone who has had a tooth pulled knows that, if the tooth is deadened properly, it is not the tooth-pulling that hurts. It is the needle going in with medication to numb the tooth that is the real agony.

Naturally, to follow the dental analogy, after the numbing wears off there is plenty of pain where the tooth was before. With hair loss transplants, there is hair transplant pain after the surgery too. Swelling is normal after hair loss transplants and can even keep you away from work. Your skull may feel very strange for weeks.

If you do feel any uncomfortable pain, it can be taken care of with a few doses of Tylenol. However, the pain of hair loss transplants cannot by right being compared to a tooth extraction. The pain is definitely less sharp and some do not even experience it as pain the least bit. Many people merely find it as an uncomfortable feeling.

On the contrary, for few of those who have had hair transplant procedures performed do not find that there is any pain involved at all because they bear the injections of the local anesthetic well. In addition, they are not daunted at all by the process. The interesting part is that they can even watch television or read magazines, being awake and alert during the procedures.

Hair transplants surgery was in earlier times when larger sections of scalp were excised is surely more painful where more cutting to extract the donor hair and more cutting to stick in the donor hair into the receiver site.

Hair transplants surgery was a very sore procedure in the past. Not all doctors today have given up on older techniques. This is one reason why you should ask a lot of questions when you look for a hair loss transplant surgeon.

At once, the surgery is minimally encroaching, so that the scalp is no more disturbed than is necessary. Newest know-hows for hair loss transplants use only the follicular unit and not a large measure of surrounding tissue for the presenter grafts and therefore the amount of pain experienced is cut down considerably.

Ultimately, an experienced and skilled surgeon is of important key in having a less painful surgery when having your hair loss transplants. The procedure will induce you to a lesser extent of pain and bring out a better result for you in the bargain if the doctor acknowledges the best way to perform the surgery.

Ovarian Cancer - The Frightening Diagnosis!

by Richard H Ealom

INTRODUCTION: About 15,280 women die every year in the US from ovarian cancer. Despite this, the 5-year survival rate for the disease has improved greatly in the last 30 years. The prognosis of ovarian cancer is closely tied to the stage at diagnosis. There is no approved screening method available at present for ovarian cancer.

The Mayo Clinic has one of the largest ovarian cancer practices in the US, treating more than 1,200 people in 2006 who had a primary or secondary diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Mayo Clinic uses a large variety of imaging techniques to detect cancer of the ovaries, including PET scans, CT scans and MRIs.

WOMEN: Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in women in the US, with over 25,000 women newly diagnosed each year with this disease. It is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in women and frequently does not result in symptoms until the cancer has spread extensively. Only about 20% of women are diagnosed early, when the disease may be curable. Ovarian cancer usually happens in women over age 50, but it can also affect younger women. About 90 percent of women who get ovarian cancer are older than 40 years of age, with the greatest number being aged 55 years or older.

RISK: All women are at risk for ovarian cancer, but older women are more likely to get the disease than those who are younger. The precise cause of cancer of the ovaries is unknown, but several risk and contributing factors have been identified. Women who have been pregnant have a 50% less risk for developing ovarian cancer compared with women who have not. Oral contraceptive use decreases the risk of cancer of the ovaries. These factors support the belief that risk for ovarian cancer is related to ovulation and that conditions that suppress this ovulatory cycle play a protective role.

Genetic factors and Family history play an important role in the risk of developing cancer of the overies also. A history of breast cancer increases a woman’s chances of developing ovarian cancer. The lifetime risk for developing ovarian cancer is 1 percent. This compares to a 4-5% risk when 1 first-degree family member is affected, rising to 7 percent when 2 relatives are affected.

DISEASE: Early stages of the disease causes minimal, nonspecific, or no symptoms. The disease is rare in patients younger than 40 years, after which the incidence rises. Based on the surgical staging, women are classified as having limited disease (stage I and II) or advanced disease (stage III and IV). Females with limited disease are classified as having low or high risk for recurrence based on the following: Low risk for recurrence includes the following; Grade 1 or 2 disease, No tumor on the outer surface of the ovary, Negative peritoneal cytology, No ascites, Tumor growth confined to the ovaries.

High risk for recurrence includes the following, Grade 3 disease, Preoperative rupture of the capsule, Tumor on the external surface of the ovary, Positive peritoneal cytology, Ascites Tumor growth outside of the ovary, Clear cell tumors, Surgical stage II for postoperative treatment. chemotherapy is indicated in all patients with ovarian cancer except those patients with surgical-pathological stage I disease with low-risk characteristics.

SYMPTOMS: may include a Heavy feeling in pelvis, Pain in lower abdomen, Bleeding from the vagina, Weight gain or loss, Abnormal periods, Unexplained back pain that gets worse, Gas, Nausea, Vomiting, or Loss of appetite. Symptoms may be caused by something other than cancer, but the only way to know is to see your doctor, nurse, or other health care professional.

Traditionally, it was believed that cancer of the ovaries does not cause any characteristic symptoms until the tumor has spread widely, and that early symptoms of ovarian cancer were not recognizable. However, in June 2007, the American Cancer Society, along with other medical societies including the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, released a consensus statement about possible early symptoms of ovarian cancer. This statement was based on research suggesting that some of the early signs of ovarian cancer can, in fact, be recognized.

TREATMENT: Treatment is usually surgery followed by treatment with chemotherapy drugs. There are also many combinations of these treatment methods and it is often worthwhile to get a second opinion about treatment before entering into a specific program. The greater the knowledge you have, the easier it is to make decisions about your personal treatment plan. Arlene Dunlop is a breast and ovarian cancer survivor whose treatments have kept her well and out enjoying life.

Conclusion: Ovarian cancer actually represents a group of different tumors that arise from diverse types of tissue contained within the ovary. Ovarian cancer can invade, shed, or spread to other organs. A malignant ovarian tumor can grow and invade organs next to the ovaries, such as the fallopian tubes and uterus. Ovarian cancer often causes signs and symptoms, so it is important to pay attention to your body and know what is normal for you.

Cancer of the ovaries most frequently appears in women who are more than 60 (about 50% of patients are over age 65), although it may occur in younger women who have a family history of the disease. Ovarian cancer is the most common reason for cancer death from gynecologic tumors in the United States. Cancer of the ovaries is diagnosed in about 23,000 women in the US each year. Ovarian cancer is a frightening diagnosis, but coming to it with knowledge and information helps a great deal. The earlier it is found and treated, the better your chances are for recovery.

Select The Proper Hinge For Your Project

by Jerry Blackburn

Choose The Right Hinge For Your Project

Because the display of hinges in a home improvement and hardware stores can be dizzying to the inexperienced homeowner, many need some help to know which hinge is correct for the woodworking project or home repair. The first essential step would be to narrow the selection based on weight, shape and size, so that the hinge will be appropriate for the materials used in the project. Large heavy hinges are fine for doors, but not appropriate for smaller, delicate wooden boxes and so on.

In addition, some hinges are designed as reversible hinges, so that either end can be mounted to the top. Other hinges are more decorative and must be installed in a certain position. There are also hinges for left-hand and right-hand doors to consider as well. The loose-pin hinge used for hanging doors is made so that the hinge pin is inserted and removed from the top. Right-hand hinges and left-hand hinges can be distinguished by simply standing on the outer side of the door to see if the door opens to the right side or to the left side.

One detail that some do-it-yourself homeowners don’t consider is how much of the hinge will be visible when the project is complete. If the hinge shows, it may be best to choose something more decorative, though some homeowners prefer simple and functional hinges to show as well. This depends on personal taste for your home. Some people prefer the hinge to be hidden, so thought should be given to how the hinge will function in this case.

Shopping for the appropriate hinges can be much easier if the homeowner can ask good questions and understands the printed information about each type. This list may help.

? Back flap hinge ? a version of the butt hinge, commonly used for furniture

? Ball-bearing hinge ? permanently lubricated but slightly more expensive, for heavy-duty doors

? Butt hinge ? normally range in size from 13 mm to 150 mm. Varieties include rigid pin and loose pin. Often used for mounting home doors and cabinet doors

? Butterfly hinge ? for lightweight doors, in a variety of shapes and patterns

? Double-acting hinge ? opens in either direction, usually on folding doors

? Flush hinge ? less strength than butt hinge, often used for cabinets, concealed except for hinge barrel

? Knuckle hinges ? loose joint hinge, decorative, shows only the knuckle

? Offset blind hinge ? full opening and swing away, screen/storm doors

? Parliament hinges ? when hinge pin must extend past door face

? Pivot hinge ? versatile, recessed doors, overlay doors, flush doors

? Spring-loaded hinge ? automatically closes door, adjustable tension available

? Table top hinges ? leaf section tables

? Concealed hinges ? 25 mm to 36 mm in size, adjustable after fitting, chipboard and MDF

In addition to these hinges, there are a number of specialty hinges, including the strap hinge, T-hinge and continuous hinges. Some are designed for heavy-duty use while the continuous hinge is perfect for chest lids, cabinets and so on. A piano hinge is a continuous hinge.

What to Do After a Break Up

by Ricardo d Argence

I’ve already talked about a few ways to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for getting over a difficult break-up and moving on with your love life. Now, I will continue this discussion and explore a few more tips on how to grow into a better person and take the pain and hurt of a break up in stride. Ok, on to a few more tips…

1. “HATE Leads to FEAR leads to SUFFERING…” Dealing with your issues of “hate” is exemplified in a quote from Yoda.

At times you will get so ticked off that you will just want to scream. You might resent the time you wasted or the presence of kids who grabbed your former partner’s attention. Last, it is possible that you result in feeling awful about yourself, but remember you ought to ask yourself first to get the love you need. Spend your time wisely, learn love not hate.

2. Have a Pow-Wow. In some Native American cultures, people would come together in a time of crisis so that the most troubled would gain from the collective wisdom of the community. In microcosm, this still works! Gather up your friends, homies, buddies, compadres..whatever! and get their advice. Perhaps they have been through similar events.

Guidance and strength can be provided by your male friends and will help you see through your delusions causing you to better yourself. When your relationship ends, your girlfriends will be there to give you support that you need to help you move forward. Time to gather at the designated place.

3. Creative Expression. Some of the most amazing poems, novels, songs, and art have been created by artists suffering immense pain. Each of us has an imagination and a creative side. Explore yours now as a path of expression and put your feelings in a deeper perspective. It’s vital to write down what you are going through.

Again, in the future, as you would look back at this life-impacting breakup, you will be surprised how your feelings have changed for the better and that’s because by that time you will have found another better relationship.

Well that’s all the tips for now. I will round out this series shortly. Keep these things in mind, but check this out:

Halloween Costumes for Children

by Phil Sikes

Homemade children’s Halloween costumes can be fun to make if your children help, but you have to consider the cost and time you put into it if the children are not participating and learning how to do it with you. Sometimes it can be more economical to save your time and buy a ready made costume at the prices now available in the shops.

One way to ensure you do not spend excessive time on making a costume from the raw material on up, is to start with old clothes from the family closet or a thrift shop. That way, most of your effort goes into the fun part your children enjoy being part of - making the accessories and getting made up for the part.

Think about one simple example of a child’s costume: a scarecrow. More than likely, you can find an old pair of slightly ripped jeans, an old shirt, and a big straw hat that can serve as the key parts of the outfit. Then, add pieces of straw to the cuffs of the pants and the shirt, as well as to the bottom of the hat.

You might find a bird you can sit on the hat from your Christmas tree decorations. From there most of your effort will go into face painting and finishing off the overall look.

Another similar example is that of a pirate. The essential parts of this Halloween get up are an old shirt, cut down jeans, and a bandana. Again, this costume will rely on the details that you choose to add. Don’t leave out a sword, broad belt, tattoos, and an eye patch. Make-up or face paint can add another fun touch.

A simple witch costume starts with nothing more than a long sleeved turtle neck and a pair of stretchy pants. Just add a long black cape, a tall pointy hat, and whatever other details you want.

Other old clothes can be made into animal costumes depending on the colors you use. Complete the look with mittens, ears, a tail, and the right face paint. If you prefer, you could find some accessories for animal costumes in a costume shop, such as masks, tails, noses, and ears.

If your child decides to dress up as a tiger this Halloween, then all you really need to get started is some orange clothing and black fabric paint to make stripes with. Lots of kids love Winnie the Pooh. Making this costume requires little more than a yellow outfit filled with some stuffing.

Winning A Halloween Costume Contest

by Phil Sikes

After years and years of watching other people walk away from Halloween parties with the coveted Most Creative Halloween Costume prize, you are going to make sure that you win this year. But, how are you going to make that happen? Read on to get some great ideas to think about so that you can make your best costume ever.

The most important part of having a creative costume is being original. Originality will make the difference and let you stand out from the rest of the more traditional costumes. If you really want to win a Most Creative Halloween contest, you absolutely cannot buy your costume from a costume shop.

One great way to make a creative costume is to play off of a recent news story involving a famous person. Costumes of this nature will work out even better if the news story has been embarrassing or misfortunate. Consider some examples of just how you can pull it off. You could choose to dress up as Paris Hilton, well accessorized and dressed in a prison outfit. Other options could be Lindsay Lohan desperately searching for a fix, the Obama girl, or Michael Vick dragging a dead dog behind him on a leash.

This type of costume can work out extremely well. Unfortunately, it can also completely fail if other people are not able to recognize you easily. If you do not naturally look anything like the celebrity that you are trying to dress as, you will need to invest a lot of effort into your make up and hair so you can make the costume believable.

Not only that, but you need to be sold out to the idea of portraying this person. That means acting like they would act, talking like they would talk, and in general becoming that person for the duration of the party. (Or at least until the judging is done!)

Make sure you fit into this costume concept. If you’re trying to portray Will Smith when your body more closely resembles Norbitt, then we’ve got a problem from the get-go! Also, if your costume has you exposed more than you might be normally, make sure you can live with this. If you’re going to dress up as Brittany Spears and are uncomfortable showing the amount of everything she shows, then rethink your costume! If you look the least bit uncomfortable either in concept or execution, people will notice.

When it comes to couple’s costumes, many things have been experimented with. If you want to win a creative couple’s costume contest, you will need to work hard to keep things original.

Remember that the whole point of participating in a creative costume contest at a Halloween party is for you to have some real fun. Don’t lose sight of that while you are working hard to prepare your creative outfit.
